One Eyed Jack

One Eyed Jack, 8 x 10, oil on board

I've  created  a similar painting to this and I enjoyed painting it so I decided to revisit the subject. These are some vintage toys from my collection. Wooden Blocks, spinning tops, playing cards, chess, and marbles are all toys or games that have been played with by many generations of children.

Red and Green - Candy Cane Painting by K Henderson

Red and Green, 30 x 40, oil on linen

I had a great time painting this photorealism still life. The striped background with the red and green striped candy and glass atlas jars along with their reflections was a wonderful challenge. I'm pleased with the results.

Music Box

Music Box, 10 x 8, oil on cradled board

I love vintage tin wind-up toys. This cheery little big was begging to be painting. He looks ready to great the spring day emerging from the cigar box into the morning light.

This is from my continuing series 'Toys in a Box'

Hopping Crow

Hopping Crow, 10 x 8, oil on board

I wanted to take a break from my larger work and paint something small and fun. This little fellow is a tin wind-up toy from my vintage toy collection. I hope to use him in a larger painting soon.

I started this painting several months ago at the height of Strawberry Season. Its a pleasure to put the finishing touches on the canvas now that it is autumn and the strawberries are just a delicious memory.

Capturing the Sun by K Henderson

Capturing the Sun, oil on linen, 30 x 20
I'm ready for winter to be over! I rarely paint flowers but I had the desire to paint these sunflowers. To me, sunflowers are the symbol of summer.
I love the way the sun shines through the translucent petals. Have you ever stopped to look at the way the glass causes a distortion on flower stems? And battenberg lace has always been a favorite of mine.
