Super Valentine by K Henderson

Super Valentine, 12 x 9, oil on board

What can be more romantic than valentines, candy and hearts? And who is among the most famous romantic couples? The Man of Steel and Lois Lane of course!

This Trompe L'oeil painting has Valentines of Superman and Lois Lane from the 1940's and '50's. I've combined them with a heart shaped sucker with cellophane, a red ribbon, red hearts and a silver heart reflecting the blue sky

Available.

Air Mail by K Henderson

Air Mail, 24 x 20, oil on cradled board

This is another painting in my Flight series. I have a fondness for well played with vintage toys. This airplane has almost all of the paint worn off as well as a missing propeller.

The Trompe L'Oeil painting also has a torn pulp magazine cover, an airmail letter dated 1946, and airmail stamps.

Red and Green - Candy Cane Painting by K Henderson

Red and Green, 30 x 40, oil on linen

I had a great time painting this photorealism still life. The striped background with the red and green striped candy and glass atlas jars along with their reflections was a wonderful challenge. I'm pleased with the results.

What can I say? This is a painting of stacked cookies and their reflection.

Brer Rabbit Molasses

Brer Rabbit Molasses, 16 x 20, oil on cradled board

I recently read that one of the most collected items is vintage cooking pieces. I happen to be one of those collectors. Many are keepsakes handed down through family.

This Trompe L'Oeil painting shows a 1920's Brer Rabbit Molasses ad. The rabbit peeking from behind the ad is a die cut 'premium' from the same company. The handmade (made by me) chocolate girl and rabbit is from a vintage chocolate mold. And, yes, I made the Ginger Bread Man, too, from a recipe in a vintage cookbook. The other vintage items include wooden blocks, a ginger can and a cookie cutter

Licorice Allsorts

Licorice Allsorts, oil on cradled board, 16 x 20

I love licorice! Any kind, any where, any time. Allsorts is my favorite. Not only is it tasty but it's also beautiful. It's truly Eye Candy.

The Singer Vintage Card by K Henderson

The Singer, 10 x 8, oil on board

This is the second of three in my Music themed Vintage Card trompe l'oeil paintings.

My Contemporary Realism still life paintings tend to be complicated with lots of 'stuff' in them. With these vintage card paintings, my goal is to keep them simple and add nothing outside the card. I broke my rule by adding a scrap of sheet music.

Super Powers

Super Powers, 20 x 16, oil on cradled board

I had great fun putting this trompe l'oeil painting together. I chose each object to symbolize Superman or his powers.

The blue, red and yellow shield, of course, is Superman's trademark.

Superman has Xray Vision. This came from a comic book ad selling those cool glasses.

"splo..." is one of those comic book words we've all come to identify with Super Heros.

The round magnifier is used to symbolize Superman's Super Vision. He can see tiny things no one else can see as well as the ability to see far distances.

The 'S' from a scrabble board just stands for Superman

Superman is able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

"Kryptonite Is Superman's Worst Enemy". Well, that's the way they put it in the old radio shows. That makes it sound like kryptonite is going to sprout legs and go chasing after Superman.

Superman is faster than a speeding bullet

He's more powerful than a locomotive.

The stamp is just cool.

The steel ball is there because Superman is known as 'The Man of Steel' and because I really like painting it.

Where would Superman be without Lois Lane? Probably in a lot less trouble!

And the rocket, of course, because Superman arrived on earth in a spacecraft from his home planet of Krypton.

And the cardboard box? That's where most of us have stashed our toys and comic books from our childhood.
