Blue Vase and Silk- Oil painting by K Henderson

Blue Vase and Silk is 30" x 30" oil on canvas.

This painting took FOREVER to complete. I started it with a grisalle underpainting  (a black and white painting) and then applied layers and layers of color to the vase, each layer having to dry before the next layer was applied.
Many challenges in this painting. I had to paint the blue vase plus the fabric behind the vase  and the reflections in the vase.
And the silk! My favorite fabric. It seems to capture and reflect all the colors of the rainbow.
I can't wait to do another painting like this

Ride 'Em Cowboy - oil painting by K Henderson

Here is the finished painting.‘Ride ‘em Cowboys’ is 18″ x 24″, oil on canvas. The challenge of this painting was to put enough detail in the scarf in the background so that it would be interesting but not so much detail that it would become the focal point and overwhelm the painting. I left the colors muted and low key.

Forever Brave oil painting by K Henderson

Forever Brave, 12 x 9, oil on board

This little guy is one of my favorite vintage  ceramic figures . He's a little warrior with a tomahawk.
He is standing in front of a wool blanket. Can you tell that I love the color Red?

As I've said before, I love painting the different textures. The roughness of the wool, the shiny hardest of the ceramic and the satin reflections on the table all come together to make a nice contrast

Blue Skies oil painting by K. Henderson

Blue Skies, 18 x 24, oil on canvas

Stripes and Reflections! My two favorite subjects to paint.

I took many reference photos for this painting. I set up this still life on the deck of my house. The reflections show the Blue New Mexico Sky, my pink stucco house and black and white striped fabric. The vehicle for the reflections is an antique silver creamer that belonged to my mother.

Strawberry Delight ,11" x 14"

This oil painting shows strawberries in a cut glass dish on a piece of battenburg lace.
For such a small painting, it was really a challenge. I like painting glass and I really had to keep focused to get all the geometric shapes just right.

Buck Rogers Crayon Ship by K Henderson

Buck Rogers Crayon Ship, 24 x 18, oil on cradled board

I enjoyed painting my Felix the Cat pencil box so much that I went looking for more pencil boxes. Buck Rogers Crayon Ship caught my eye because of the bright colors and, well, it's really cool!

I'll be creating another painting using this box because it has great graphics on the back, too. The 'chalk drawings' (yes, these are painted with oil paint) are also based on the graphics from this box.

This painting shows my love for the little critters. The still life includes a honey bear, a few vintage bee keeping books, and a ceramic honey jar. Also in the painting is a mechanical bee toy from my vintage toy collection. She walks and flaps her wings when you wind her up.

The painting wouldn't be complete without a honey bee flying by.

Good Enough by K Henderson

Good Enough, 30x 30, Oil on canvas

This oil painting is all about Vintage Kitchen. And red handles.
Red handled Kitchen Ware was especially popular in the 1930s & 1940s

The red striped cookbook from the 1940s sits on top of a wooden recipe box.
It shares that spot with wit a metal lion cookie cutter that has a red handle.

To the right is a rubber spatula also with a red handle  and an egg beater,
Does anyone else still own one of these?

Also included in this ensemble is a crocheted hot pad and a metal biscuit
cutter.Yes, with a red handle.
