K. Henderson Celebrates National Cake Day

Cherry Cake, 9 x 12, oil on canvas

I love creating paintings with lost of different textures. The shine of the bone china, the rough cake and the fluffy whipped cream were all a joy to paint.

And Your Little Dog, Too!

And Your Little Dog, Too, 28 x 22,  oil on linen

Ok, so I'm a little late with this Halloween themed painting but I prefer to think that I'm early for next year.

The title of the painting comes from the line in the Wizard of Oz "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!" spoken by the Wicked Witch of the West.

The Pianist by K Henderson

The Pianist, 10 x 8, oil on board

It's been a while since I've created a small painting based on a Vintage Game Card.  This card is from a game called Who's the Thief?

I like to paint these cards in groups of 3 with a similar theme. This is the third card in my Music trilogy. The other two are Tutor and The Singer

Sea Shells #2 and #3 by K Henderson

Sea Shells #2 and #3, 12 x 12 each, oil on cradled board

There is something intriguing about sea shells. I lovethe odd rough shape is contrasted by the smooth pink inside, don't you?

I chose a limited palette using only raw sienna, white and cadmium red.

Operation Game by K. Henderson

Operation, 30 x 40, oil on linen

Here's the finished painting. I worked on the lower right and the background. I thought the background looked a bit flat so I darkened 2 of the corners and brightened some other areas.

The game was invented by John Spinello as a school assignment while he was a student at the University of Illinois in 1962.  Milton Bradley released the game in 1965 featuring Cavity Sam with his light up red nose and many ailments; Bread Basket, Butterflies in the Stomach, Ankle Bone Connected to the Knee Bone, Spare Ribs, Funny Bone, Water on the Knee, Charley Horse, Adam's Apple, Writer's Cramp, Wish Bone, Wrenched Ankle and Broken Heart.
